Will The Handheld Gaming Pc Really Take Off

I wasn’t able to attend this year’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas in early January 2025 in person, but I did stay up to date with all the daily highlights, and some of the hottest new models that were unveiled were the OneXPlayer G1, the newest version of the Steam Deck, the Lenovo Go S, and even a Nintendo Switch 2 mock-up.

The question being asked here is, will the handheld gaming PC really take off, or will it just be a passing fad that can’t quite compete with traditional top-of-the-range mobile gaming devices, desktop computers and laptops, or consoles?

In recent years, handheld PC capabilities have come on leaps and bounds. The technology beneath the shiny exterior is capable of handling even the most high-end, graphically demanding titles, but other technological breakthroughs have also helped these devices flourish and push the boundaries of what is possible in this industry.

For example, key innovations and advancements such as superfast Wi-Fi/internet speeds (5G), live streaming capabilities, improved hardware and software, advanced computer programming/coding languages, better games, cloud computing, web browsers, socially interactive features, and microtransactions have all combined to take this specific sector to extraordinary new heights.

Handheld PCs have made some of the industry’s blockbuster titles far more accessible, and they have allowed even casual players like myself to become better in numerous triple-A games, many of which are played competitively at the world’s biggest eSports events.

There’s no need for people like me to invest in a clunky, static, and somewhat expensive desktop computer or laptop anymore. Instead, we can now play our favourite titles from almost any location on the planet thanks to the industry’s most sophisticated new handheld PCs.

In other words, I think I’m not alone when I say that handheld devices will definitely take off more than traditional consoles and PCs over the coming years. Today’s devices are incredible, far more convenient and powerful than smartphones and tablets, and they were built specifically for playing games

The Potential For Market Saturation…

2024 saw a bunch of tech companies enter the fray and release handheld gaming devices that enabled gamers to play their favourite games on the go from their Steam libraries in particular. Lenovo and ASUS were the two notable entrants but others also tried to upset the apple cart. There are frontrunners to topple, namely Nintendo, so 2025 will see more do battle!

Can You Play Live Dealers And Online Fruitys On Handheld Pcs?

Yes, you can now play a range of cutting-edge live dealers and feature-rich online fruitys from award-winning providers using a handheld PC, provided you are of legal age in your country to bet online, which is usually 18, but might be 19 or 21, depending on where you live.

When I’m bored of playing hit titles, such as Elden Ring, Diablo 4, God of War, Half-Life 2, Portal 2, Stray, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Grand Theft Auto V, Forza Horizon 5, and Baldur’s Gate 3, to name a few, and I’m looking for a completely different digital entertainment recreational experience,  I play my favourite live dealer classics from Evolution some of which include Live Lightning Roulette, Live Crazy Time, Live Blackjack, and MONOPOLY Live.

If you want to find a trustworthy site with these hit titles, you can find a frequently updated list of legally permitted sites on the official AskGamblers UK review website.

If you are like me and enjoy the occasional flutter in your spare time, then you must heed the following advice. Whenever I sign up anywhere, I will always head straight to the safer gambling tools (aka responsible gambling) section, where I can manually set things like session time reminders, deposit limits, spending caps, and win/loss limits.

I’ve found that setting a weekly deposit limit of just £50 works best for me, but you can set a more suitable limit based on how much you can comfortably afford to lose. Setting limits helps you remain well within your budget.
